Basic Photography I: From Snapshots to Great Shots
The difference between a snapshot and a great shot primarily depends on understanding a handful of basic principles and applying a few simple concepts. Learn what are the most common errors in photography and how to avoid them. We’ll discuss techniques for photographing people, events, scenes, and nature. I’ll also share with you my favorite locations. You will be begin using presented material immediately, starting with the first session. After an introduction to composition, you be offered a challenge.Next, there are two important eye-opening workshops that over the years have gotten best student reviews. These are conducted in the second and third sessions following an informational presentation. The first will teach you how to use amazing window light and overcome the trepidations of shooting portraits. I will be the practice target. The second workshop will reveal what the camera sees that you do not – a simple light-painting experiment that will introduce you to nighttime and long-exposure photography. I’ll give you the settings to use, and they are similar to shooting fireworks. Finally, in the last session, we’ll review, compare, and critique your results from the class challenge. The techniques used to compose and evaluate an image bring together how to balance listening and feeling with your right brain, while thinking and understanding with your left brain. You will find this to have an impact on your creativity and outlook well beyond the sphere of photography. nPresentation notes will be available on-line.
